What We Do

Stewart Sokol & Larkin LLC, a Pacific Northwest law firm, emphasizes construction and design law, commercial litigation, business and corporate law, insurance coverage and defense, bankruptcy, real estate, and surety and fidelity law. Our construction practice involves the representation of general contractors, architects, engineers, owners, developers, subcontractors and suppliers in all phases of construction related law matters. We have assisted our clients on a variety of major construction projects, including dams, jails, schools, highways, airports, hospitals, large corporate campuses, marine, industrial and other public and private works projects, and have expertise with regard to all aspects of such projects. We represent major surety and fidelity companies throughout the United States in connection with public and private construction bonds, court and commercial bonds, fidelity bonds, and financial guaranty bonds. We are experienced in negotiation and finalization of agreements for construction, preparation of claims, mediation, litigation arbitration and appeals.

Our business practice focuses on regional and local companies and their corresponding legal needs. This includes corporate, joint venture, partnership and LLC formation, business acquisitions, bankruptcies, and real estate transactions. We also represent business clients in all areas of commercial litigation, including contract disputes, business torts (such as interference with business relations), lender liability, trade-name issues and shareholder disputes.

The firm assists clients with real property matters of every nature, including appraisals, acquisitions/sales, property development, environmental issues, property management, negotiation of ground/commercial leaseholds, and all disputes, including boundary disputes, easement issues and otherwise.

We regularly assist insurers and self-insured businesses on coverage questions and in the defense of claims, including tort, casualty, product liability, and contract matters. Our bankruptcy practice is an outgrowth of our representation of surety and insurance companies, as well as our involvement in business and commercial matters. We have counseled and represented creditors in bankruptcy courts throughout the United States on issues ranging from the priority of claims to issues involving the assumption and rejection of real property leases. That representation has resulted in landmark decisions in the areas of the priority of workers' compensation premiums and the sureties' priority to construction contract proceeds.
